WPLCA Presents USLCA Webinars

The WPLCA has planned a virtual presentation for our spring conference, featuring progressive webinars intended to deepen your understanding and practice. Topics such as supporting Trans parents and infant development will be viewed and discussed. During this conference we will feature a special breakout session geared toward burnout- so come prepared to share! We are also excited to introduce two of our very own doulas who will present on community based doula care: a modern intervention.

Virtual Conference Schedule:

8:45am: Gathering and opening remarks

9:00 to 10:00am: A Review of Infant Development to Promote Breastfeeding Outcomes

10:00 to 10:30am: 2 Doulas Discuss their Work

10:30 to 10:45am: Break

10:45 to 11:45am: Structural support for ideal nutrition in preterm infants

11:45 to 12:30pm: Lunch

12:30 to 1:30pm: Addressing Burnout: Placing the “care” back in Caregiver

1:30 to 2:00pm: Breakout session

2:00 to 3:00pm: Inducing and Supporting Lactation in Trans Parents

3:00 to 3:15pm: Closing Remarks

We will also be offering the opportunity to participate by viewing the recorded conference through May 17.

  • October 23, 2023- “Empowering ALL Clients to Enhance their Self-Worth: How to Craft Your Lactation Consultant Practice as Welcoming, Trauma Aware, and Nurturing” with Dr. Mary Jo Podgurski

    Dr. Mary Jo Podgurski will be speaking to us about the link between self-worth and breastfeeding success. She will discuss how to empower clients by using trauma-aware practice and effective communication. She will also discuss the unique needs of breastfeeding teens and address ways to assure that diverse clients are welcomed and safe.

  • April 24, 2023- “Breastfeeding in a Stressful World” with M. Jane Heinig Ph.D.

    Attendees will learn how to improve infant feeding practices by supporting parents’ understanding of normal infant behavior, responding appropriately to heightened stress levels, and addressing parents’ questions about using expressed milk as their infants’ sole source of nutrition.

  • January 23, 2023 - “Law and Loss: Advocating for Rights and Options”

    Brandy Gentry (Birth Doula and Bereavement Advocate, Founder of Oli’s Angels) will be speaking to us about caring for bereaved parents and how to educate and support breastfeeding option for this population.

    Women’s Law Project (Ena Lebel, Sophia Elliot, and Maggie Neely) will speak about rights of pregnant and lactating workers and tips for requesting accommodations and speaking to employers.

  • September 23, 2022 - “A Day with Katrina Mitchell, MD, IBCLC, PMH-C, FACS”
    Join us for a day of lactation myth busting and so much more for our live virtual conference on Friday September 23, 2022 featuring Dr. Katrina Mitchell, board-certified general surgeon, fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist, international board certified lactation consultant, and perinatal mental health provider. Dr. Mitchell’s practice focuses on the surgical management of benign and malignant breast disease, breastfeeding medicine care for lactating patients, including those with a history of breast cancer, and medication management for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.

One Woman at a Time, Centering Pregnancy and Lactation” Dr. Row, Ms. Judge, Dr. Misawa and Ms. Cabreros will be sharing their experience providing and participating in Centering Pregnancy maternity care and the impact of Centering Care on the breastfeeding rates.

Tibbs, MPH, LCCE, IBCLC, a nationally recognized speaker and educator on anti-racism, diversity and health disparities, founder, lactation consultant and childbirth educator for Sankofa Childbirth Education Services and co-founder of The Pittsburgh Black Breastfeeding Circle (2014).
