About Us
The Western Pennsylvania Lactation Consultant Association is an affiliate of the
United States Lactation Consultant Association (USLCA).
Our mission is to:
Uphold high standards of professional practice.
Foster communication, networking, and mutual support amongst WPLCA members.
Provide for and facilitate educational opportunities for International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC), other lactation professionals, and other health care workers concerned with breast/chest feeding and related issues.
Heighten recognition of the consequences of artificial feeding of infants and children.
Foster awareness of human milk feeding as an important measure for health promotion and disease prevention.
The majority of our members are IBCLCs (International Board Certified Lactation Consultants). IBCLCs are certified through IBLCE (International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners) and are listed in the registry on IBLCE's website and are held to strict professional standards.
